Origins of 3D printing
Share
3D printing has a fascinating history that dates back to the 1980s. In 1981, Japanese artist Hideo Kodama invented two plastic manufacturing methods using a polymer that hardened under ultraviolet light . However, it was in 1984 that Charles Hull developed stereolithography, a technique that allowed three-dimensional objects to be created by adding layers of material . This technique revolutionised the market and laid the foundations for modern 3D printing.
In 1992, the first 3D printers based on stereolithography were commercially available. Since then, the technology has advanced significantly and expanded into diverse fields, including medicine, engineering, and the manufacturing of personalized products.
